Book Launch of Pallavas and Chalukyas – Coopetition in Stone

We are delighted to invite you to the launch event of INDICA’s Pallavas and Chalukyas : Coopetition in Stone, by Gurpreet Chopra and Bharath.

This innovation offers a visual treat where temple architecture, history, inscriptions, iconography, inscription and photography, infused with the devotion of the native, are showcased in the form of a coffee table book. It highlights the glorious, awe inducing Pallava and Chalukya temples which have left an indelible mark on India.

Shri Bibek Debroy

Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister

Bibek Debroy is an economist and was educated in Ramakrishna Mission School, Narendrapur; Presidency College, Kolkata; Delhi School of Economics and Trinity College, Cambridge. Presently, he is Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) and President, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). He has worked in Presidency College, Kolkata (1979-83), Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune (1983-87); Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (1987-93); as the Director of a Ministry of Finance/UNDP project on legal reforms (1993-98);

Department of Economic Affairs (1994-95); National Council of Applied Economic Research (1995-96); Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies (1997-2005); PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2005-06); and Centre for Policy Research (2007-2015). He has authored/edited several books, papers and popular articles and has also been a Consulting/Contributing Editor with several newspapers. He was awarded the Shriram Sanlam Award for financial journalism in 2013. He was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015. He was awarded D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) by KIIT University in 2015, D.Phil. (Honoris Causa) by Amity University in 2016, D.Phil. (Honoris Causa) by Jagran Lakecity University in 2017 and D.Sc. (Honoris Causa) by University of Engineering and Management in 2018. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by US-India Business Summit in 2016 and the Skoch Challenger Golden Jubilee Award in 2017. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Prestige Institute of Management and Research in 2018. He was conferred the title of "Vachaspati" by the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha in 2018. He was awarded the "Bharatiya Manavita Vikas Puraskar" by Power Brand in 2018.< align="justify">


Padmasree Meenakshi Jain

Historian and Author

Meenakshi Jain is an Indian political scientist and historian. A scholar on relations between caste and politics, who has written several groundbreaking works (Sati: Evangelicals, Baptist Missionaries, and the Changing Colonial Discourse) on the use of Sati practice by the British in colonial India for evangelical purposes and had also authored a history textbook (Medieval India), which incurred significant scholarly criticism but went on to replace a previous text by Romila Thapar. Her groundbreaking historical work on Rama and Ayodhya, and The Battle for Rama has served in eliciting the truth, long buried under the debris of falsities. In 2014, she was nominated as a member of the Indian Council of Historical Research by the Indian government. In 2020, she was conferred with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for her work in the field of literature and education.


Dr. Chithra Madhavan

Archaeologist and Historian

Chithra Madhavan is a recipient of two post doctoral fellowships from the Department of Culture, Govt of India and Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. She has co-edited a book, "South Indian Heritage" which contains 500 articles on various aspects of South India's heritage. She has authored seven books and also wrote a coffee table book - "Snapshots of A Bygone Era: A Century of Images."


Smt. Sashikala Ananth

Leading Vaastu Expert

Sashikala Ananth is an architect by qualification and holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Madras School. Sashikala has researched the classical Indian science of Architecture – vAstu, for over twenty years. She was a student of Sri Ganapati Sthapati, a leading authority on the vAstu shAastra. She also studied Yoga at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in this period. Having studied the vAstu texts extensively, assimilating traditional wisdom and exploring its field application, she now works on projects incorporating the wisdom of vAstu in creative and harmonious ways with the modern lifestyle. Her work as a behavioral scientist has been largely focused on helping NGO’s and Educational Institutions. Currently the founder of Ritambhara Ashram where she runs her own workshops and teaching programs. She is the author of the popular 'The Penguin Guide to Vaastu'


Dr. Vasundhara Filliozat

Historian, Epigraphist and Iconographist

Vasundhara Filliozat has been working on the history of Karnataka since the early 1960s. She was born in Haveri in Dharwad district as the fifth child of Sanskrit and Kannada scholar Pandit Chennabasavappa Kavali. While studying Hampi, she translated more than 150 Kannada inscriptions into French.


Dr. Deepa Duraiswamy

Scholar and Author

Deepa Duraiswamy holds degrees in engineering and management from the University of Pune and IIM Calcutta. Her desire to understand the āgama-s and make them more accessible for a modern audience led to an interdisciplinary Ph.D. on “Temple Management in the Āgamas” at the Department of Sanskrit, University of Madras that is now published as a book by Indic Academy. She has taught an introductory course on Śaiva Siddhānta at the Department of Saiva Siddhanta, University of Madras. She hopes to continue exploring this ancient system that seems to be at the core of sanātana dharma in practice.
